2011: Jega in Aso Rock, briefs FEC over DDC machines

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday, appeared before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan and briefed the council on preparations by the commission for the smooth conduct of the 2011 elections.
It was gathered that during the meeting, Professor Jega specifically explained to the council the arrangements on the ground for the procurement of the multi-billion naira direct data capturing (DDC) machines which are said to be delaying the commencement of the compilation of  a new voter register.
At the end of the meeting, which disrupted other early engagements of Professor Jega, the council reportedly assured the commission of the Federal Government’s commitment towards conducting free, fair and acceptable elections in 2011.
