Bothroyd, who has been in great form this season netting 12 goals to take the Bluebirds top of the Championship, has been watched by England assistant coach Stuart Pearce and, although it is unlikely that he will be given a start, he is believed to under the microscope.
England are currently undergoing a striking deficit as Emile Heskey has retired, Bobby Zamora, Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Gabriel Agbonlahor are all injured and Carlton Cole has suffered from a lack of form.
While Theo Walcott has now returned from injury and Newcastle's Andy Carroll is still yet to receive a call, Capello is keen to explore all his options in the friendly with France on November 7 and may also keep 33-year-old Kevin Davies in the squad after giving him his debut against Montenegro.
Capello will announce his squad a week on Saturday and looks likely to give Darren Bent and Peter Crouch the chance to shine up front. Although Cardiff manager, Dave Jones, insists that Bothroyd is "worth a look".
The last player to receive a call-up to the England squad from outside the Premier League was striker David Nugent in 2007, when he was playing for Preston North End. He scored in the 93rd minute against Andorra after coming on as a substitute, but has not made another appearance since.
