Transport companies’ registration: FRSC gives December deadline

Transport companies’ registration: FRSC gives December deadline

The Federal Road Safety Commission has given all transport companies in the country up to the end of December to register with the commission or be sanctioned.
Similarly, the commission had directed all the tranport companies to set up safety units, with experienced safety officers, before the end of the year or the owners of the companies would risk a six-month jail term or N50,000 fine or both.
Delivering a paper on “Regulating Road Transportation in Nigeria through the Road Transport Safety Standardisation,” in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, the FRSC Transport Standardisation Officer, Dr Kayode Olagunju, declared that “we will not beg anybody. We will drag many companies to court to ensure they comply.”
Dr Olagunju said the requirements from the transport companies were to enable the corps to maintain a data bank of all transport operators in the country.
He disclosed that the corps was currently monitoring 683 parks in the country from where more than 120 million people travelled through 10,076,196 vehicles covering 2,545,943,312 kilometres.
Dr Olagunju also said that the corps was on the verge of computerising all drivers that had been involved in fatal accidents nationwide so as to ensure they were not given opportunities to drive commercial vehicles anywhere in the country.
