Republicans take over US House, lead in gov elections

THE mid-term election of the United States held on Tuesday saw the Republicans winning a majority in the House of Representatives to establish a leading position.
The Republicans, at the time of filing this report, already had 238 seats out of the 435 seats in the House, with the Democrats taking hold of 183 seats.
Also, the GOP is leading in the results of elections for governorship in states, taking hold of 27 states already, while the Democrats trailed behind with a hold on 14 states and one independent.
Results show a tight race in the pending results of seven states, with Republicans hoping to win more states.
However, at the Senate, the Republicans could not gain a majority, as the Democrats made 51 seats, to save their majority. Republicans trailed behind with 47 seats.
While there was no direct bearing on the White House, the mid-term elections were seen as a test of the popularity of President Barack Obama and his handling of the economy.
President Obama had, before the election begun by 7.00 a.m on Tuesday morning, taken his campaign to some of the states in what the Americans termed the bid to save his administration.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Democratic party chairman, Tim Kaine, said, “maybe it is a message from the American public. We've got a Democrat in the White House. We'll have a majority Republican governors. We'll have a Democratic Senate, Republican House. Everybody's got to work together.”
Already, the Republicans now have, at the Senate, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Wisconsin, among others.
