Ube: Fg votes N3.7bn for schools, communities

THE Federal Government has earmarked the sum of N3.75 billion to  be disbursed to 3,752 schools and communities throughout the country under the 2009 Universal Basic Education (UBE) Self-Help project funding arrangement.
Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed, who made this known said each project benefiting school/community would receive funding support to the tune of N1 million and also provide at least 10 per cent of the total cost of its project as counterpart fund for the project execution.
A statement in Abuja by the Commission’s Principal Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. David Apeh, on Thursday, said Modibbo made this known at the kick-off of the 2009 UBE Community Initiated Self-Help Project implementation and disbursement of the first tranche support fund to benefiting School/Community in Kaduna.
He said between the year 2005 and 2008, the self-help strategy had provided several deliverables in 22,598 communities targeting key infrastructural components and other facilities essential to quality UBE delivery.
