2011: NPF charges Nigerians on voter registration

2011: NPF charges Nigerians on voter registration

The Nothern Patriotic Front (NPF) has called on Nigerians, irrespective of their religious and political inclinations, to come out and register during the forthcoming voter registration exercise.
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, had declared on Monday that the  exercise would hold in January, next year.
Accordingly, the NPF, an assemblage of progressive men, women, youths and progressive democrats and activists of Northern extraction, enjoined Nigerians, especially the youth to come out and participate fully in the voter registration exercise.
The chairman of NPF, Alhaji Ali Abacha, pointed out that  only citizens with voter cards who could vote during the 2011 general election and exercise their voting right.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday and entitled: “Come out and register – Northern Patriotic Front Urges Nigerians”, Alhaji Abacha, who signed the statement, said: “It is the voter card that will be used to elect those who will govern us. It is the voter card that we will use to vote out bad leaders. It is the voter card that we will use to vote in dedicated, people centered and listening leaders.
“In fact, without the voter card, we cannot exercise our civic responsibility. The possession of the voter card is the beginning of political emancipation and the entrenchment of a genuine, meaningful and participatory democracy.
“The voter card is the only passport needed to fast track and deepen our nascent democracy. Unless we come out massively to register during the voter registration exercise, the clamour for free, fair and credible elections may elude us.”
